Yesterday my mom posted a picture on Facebook of my 5 year old brother Sam wearing a pair of shoes he picked out for his first day of preschool.

She explained to him in the store that they were really made for girls. Sam then told her that he didn’t care and that “ninjas can wear pink shoes…

I was made fun of in 2nd grade for wearing a shirt with pink on it. I never wore the shirt again. The design was a black and white photo of a girl kissing a boy on the cheek. The pink ribbon in the girl’s hair was the only color in the photo.

I also wore a purple and black backpack in 7th grade. Purple used to be my favorite color. I was a little stronger by then and after initial comments/ridicule, people stopped caring.
