I’ve been working around 40-50 hours a week as of late. Unfortunately, it hasn’t all been in nice blocks, but haphazardly assembled into some horror of a Frankenstein schedule. It’s like a shaky hand threw darts at a calendar so that I end up working from 7am to 11pm with only a three hour break, which hardly allows time to do anything fun or productive outside of work.
My girlfriend has been gone in Tampa a lot to be with her cancer-recovering mother: driving her mom to chemo, helping move, watching bad TV with her, etc.
I’ve been trying to go to more shows lately, even if its after work when I am tired. Caught Traveling the other night. They were amazing. I had interviewed Ginger (guitarist/singer) for the Farside Newsletter only a week beforehand. I put the newsletter together in a few sleepless nights. I thought someone else was going to take care of it, but I once again had to step up. I enjoy doing it, though. Someone else was nice enough to pay for it.
Caught the Halloween covers shows. Last night I saw Pixies and Nirvana cover bands. The Pixies one was exceptionally good. I missed the other bands since I came straight from work. The previous night was made up of more disjointed cover bands, although the Weezer band was really on point. I didn’t recognize any of the members from the Weezer band from the music scene, which struck me as strange. They played predominately Blue Album and Pinkerton songs. Off with Their Heads was surprisingly good as a cover set too. The Sum-41 one made me smile, especially since they all looked so ’90s skate punk (they weren’t dressed up for the show — that’s their regular attire): spiked and bleach tipped hair, long baggy shorts, backwards baseball caps, etc.
I work again tonight. Currently eating chili my girlfriend left me and ignoring the wrecked state of my bedroom. My dog just chewed up a stick on my bed…
